Additional information

Struck at Mashhad in the final, chaotic months of the Afsharid dynasty's coherence, this issue dates to the period immediately following Nader Shah's assassination in June 1747. His nephew Adel Shah seized power and held it for less than a year before being blinded and deposed by his own brother Ibrahim. Mashhad, as Nader's home base and the seat of his treasury, remained briefly operational under Adel — but the mint's output during this window was irregular, with dies often reused or poorly maintained under the administrative collapse.

The Khorasan mints saw some of the sharpest disruption of any in the empire during this succession crisis.
