| Obverse description | At centre, the Russian State emblem of a double-headed eagle with wings spread, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The eagle is uncrowned, as adopted for the Bank of Russia standard type. A dotted inner border encircles the central device. The Cyrillic legend ДВА РУБЛЯ arcs along the upper rim, while БАНК РОССИИ appears along the lower arc. The date 1998 Г. is inscribed at the bottom, flanked by dots, with the silver fineness Ag 925 to the lower left and the weight indication 15.55 to the lower right of the eagle. |

Eisenstein died in 1948, and this coin was issued on the centenary of his birth. The 1998 date also places it squarely within Russia's commemorative silver program of the late 1990s — a period when the Bank of Russia was issuing collector pieces at a remarkable pace even as the country lurched toward the August 1998 financial crisis that would collapse the ruble within months of this coin's release.
