Additional information

Mikhail Gerasimov (1907–1970) founded the Soviet laboratory for plastic facial reconstruction, developing a forensic and archaeological method of rebuilding faces from skeletal remains that became internationally adopted. This coin was issued on the centenary of his birth as part of Russia's long-running "Outstanding Personalities" series. His techniques were applied to the skulls of Ivan the Terrible, Tamerlane, and Friedrich Schiller, among others — and remain in use by Russian forensic investigators today.
