Mustai Karim — pen name of Mustafa Sayfullin — was the defining literary figure of Soviet-era Bashkortostan, his poetry translated into dozens of languages and his plays staged across the USSR. This coin was issued as part of the Bank of Russia's long-running "Outstanding Personalities of Russia" series, which has produced hundreds of silver commemoratives since the 1990s. Karim died in 2005; the 2019 date marks the centenary of his birth.
