Crimea's ambiguous post-2014 political status generated a minor cottage industry of fantasy issues — pieces produced with no genuine monetary authority behind them, typically sold directly to collectors rather than circulated. The "Crimea Republic" designation appears on none of Russia's official minting records; the Central Bank of Russia assumed monetary authority over the peninsula following annexation, leaving no legal space for a separate Crimean issuing body.
Collector demand for novelty regional pieces keeps these in print.
