| Additional information |
Ajman, smallest of the Trucial States by both area and population, had no meaningful monetary infrastructure when it began issuing coins in 1969 — these were produced entirely for the collector and proof set market, with no pretense of entering circulation. The essai designation marks this as a trial or pattern strike submitted for approval, distinct from the standard issue, and such pieces were typically struck in extremely limited numbers by the European minting houses contracted for the Trucial States' short-lived coinage programs.
Ajman ceased issuing coins entirely when the UAE federation formed in 1971, giving this entire series a two-year window of existence.
