Obverse description Type VII countermark applied to the obverse of a host coin, consisting of a small crowned lion passant within a beaded circular border approximately 5 mm in diameter. The surrounding legend reads HABILITADA POR EL GOBIERNO, indicating official government authorization for continued circulation. The countermark is struck cleanly into the field of the host coin, with the host coin's original design partially visible beneath. The lion device is rendered in the heraldic tradition consistent with Costa Rican emergency coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.
