Obverse description The Mexican national arms dominate the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus rising from a rocky outcrop, clutching a serpent in its beak and talons. A half-wreath of laurel and oak branches frames the design along the lower portion of the field. The legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, closely following the beaded border that encircles the entire obverse.
