| Additional information |
Zacatecas was one of the few mints to remain under royalist control during the worst years of the Mexican War of Independence, operating under constant pressure from insurgent forces who controlled much of the surrounding territory. Production was erratic, the workforce disrupted, and the coin presses frequently running with whatever silver could be moved safely through rebel-contested roads. The result was output that ranged dramatically in quality across even a single year's striking.
KM#92.1 specimens from the earlier dates in this range — particularly 1813 and 1814 — tend to show crude workmanship that reflects emergency conditions rather than any decline in the mint's permanent capability.
