| Additional information |
When royalist forces secured Zacatecas in 1811, the mint there was pressed into producing emergency coinage to fund the Crown's military operations against Hidalgo's insurgency. These pieces were struck under improvised conditions — the distinctive crude workmanship reflects not incompetence but the practical urgency of a mint operating under constant threat of insurgent recapture. Zacatecas would change hands more than once before independence.
KM#188 encompasses notable variation in die execution across the 1811–1812 window, with some strikes showing drastically misaligned or undersized planchets consistent with emergency procurement.
