Additional information

When royalist forces retained control of the Zacatecas mint in 1810, they continued striking in the name of Fernando VII — then imprisoned by Napoleon at Valençay — while insurgent pressure from Hidalgo's uprising was reshaping the monetary landscape of New Spain. The Zacatecas issues of this period are distinguished from Mexico City coinage by noticeably crude workmanship; the mint lacked both the equipment and the skilled labor to maintain consistent planchet preparation under wartime conditions.

The 1810–1811 window is narrow. Zacatecas would fall to insurgent control before long, making this among the last orthodox royalist output from that mint.
