Obverse description The obverse features the Pillars of Hercules design, displaying two crowned columns flanking the numeral 2 at the top, in the traditional Spanish colonial style. The legend PLVS SVL TR is divided across the upper field between the columns, referencing the ancient motto PLVS VLTRA. The date and assayer initials B.S. appear in the central register, flanked by the columns, with the mint name CARACAS inscribed across the lower field. A decorative scroll ornament appears below the mint name, and the entire design is enclosed within a toothed border.
