Reverse description Crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms at center, displaying alternating castles of Castile and lions of León in the four quarters, with the Granada pomegranate in point and a central inescutcheon bearing the French fleurs-de-lis. Flanking the shield are two Pillars of Hercules, each draped with a banner bearing the PLUS ULTRA device. The circumferential legend reads • HISPAN • ET IND • REX •, with the mint mark NG, denomination 2R, and assayer initial M appearing to the left. The coin is bordered by a finely toothed milled rim.
