Obverse description Central field displays the quartered royal arms of Spain — bearing castles and lions with a pomegranate in base — surmounted by a large royal crown in high relief. The assayer's initial (P) appears to the left of the shield and the denomination numeral (2) to the right, both flanking the arms in the field. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, interrupted by pellet stops, identifying the monarch and his royal titles.
