Obverse description A bold Jerusalem cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing alternating castles and lions passant in the manner of the Royal Arms of Castile and León. The cross features flared or floriated terminals typical of the macuquina (cob) coinage of the Lima mint under Felipe V. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of hand-struck cob coinage, and the relief is moderately bold where the dies have made full contact. A partial circular legend surrounds the design, though much of it is typically off-flan due to the cob striking method.
