Obverse description Central crowned royal shield of the Hispanic Monarchy, quartered with the castles of Castile and lions of León, with Granada in base, surmounted by a royal crown. The mintmark letters T and M appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral II visible to the right. A partial Latin legend runs around the periphery of the irregularly flan-shaped coin, partially visible due to the nature of hammered coinage production.

Reverse description A bold quatrefoil or polylobed frame encloses a quartered cross, dividing the field into four segments each bearing alternating castles and lions in relief — the arms of Castile and León respectively. The cross arms extend to the inner edge of the lobed border. Partial Latin legend HISPANIARVM REX is distributed around the outer periphery, with a six-pointed star visible at the top of the field. The overall composition is characteristic of the Toledo mint's hammered macuquina (cob) coinage of the second half of the sixteenth century.
