Obverse description The obverse bears a plain field entirely occupied by a five-line Latin legend in large raised capital letters, separated by small six-pointed star ornaments used as punctuation. At the top of the field, a small architectural motif resembling a castle turret or mint mark device is visible above the first line of text. The inscription reads CAROLUS V / DEI GRATIA / HISP REX / 1837, proclaiming Charles V King of Spain by the Grace of God. A single decorative star ornament appears at the bottom of the field below the date, and the whole is framed by a reeded border.
