Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Carlos III facing right, struck under the reign of Carlos IV during the transitional period of 1789-1790. The effigy displays the older portrait type of Carlos III, retained briefly after the accession of his successor. The circular legend reads .CAROLUS.IV.DEI.GRATIA. with the date positioned at the base of the bust. The portrait is rendered in the neoclassical style characteristic of late 18th-century Spanish colonial milled coinage, with fine detailing in the hair and drapery. The field surrounding the bust is smooth, framed by a milled border.
