Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Carlos III facing right, struck under the reign of Carlos IV, occupying the central field. The effigy displays the aged portrait of Carlos III as used on early issues of Carlos IV, a transitional design characteristic of the first year of his reign. The circular legend reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA with the date 1790 positioned in the lower exergue, separated by decorative star stops. A beaded inner border frames the design.
