Obverse description Armored bust of King Carlos IV facing right, rendered in the neoclassical style characteristic of late colonial Spanish coinage. The effigy shows the king in military dress with draped armor over the truncation. The circular legend reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA around the periphery, with the date 1808 positioned in the lower field beneath the portrait. The rim is bordered by a fine toothed or beaded edge typical of milled Mexican mint coinage of the period.
