Reverse description Two crowned Pillars of Hercules rising from stylized waves, with a small orb or globe between each pillar, representing the boundary between the Old and New Worlds. The motto PLVS VLTR (Plus Ultra, meaning 'Further Beyond') appears between the pillars in the central field. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the surrounding legend HISPANIARVM ET INDIARVM running along the outer rim. The design reflects the imperial iconography of Charles V's Habsburg monarchy. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular shape and uneven strike of early Mexican colonial coinage.
