Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty in the classical style, her hair bound with a diadem inscribed LIBERTAD, with flowing wavy locks behind. Seven five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc around the upper field. The date 1858 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by the mint mark A (Paris) to the right and an anchor privy mark to the lower left; the engraver's signature BARRE is incised near the lower right rim. The entire design is bordered by a continuous reeded inner rim.
