| Obverse description | The South African coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a secretary bird with outstretched wings above a shield supported by two human figures, with a protea flower at the crest and wheat sheaves at the base. The legend SOUTH AFRICA arcs along the upper rim in raised Latin lettering, while the Khoisan motto !KE E: /XARRA //KE appears on a scroll at the base of the arms. The date 2005 is inscribed in the lower field beneath the coat of arms. The engraver's initials ALS appear below the coat of arms. The design is executed in high-relief proof finish against a mirror-polished field. |
