Obverse description The post-1994 South African coat of arms is depicted centrally in the field, featuring a Kori Bustard with outstretched wings surmounting a shield charged with two figures in greeting, supported by crossed knobkierie and spear, with a rising sun above and a protea plant at the base. The motto scroll below the shield bears the legend ǃKE Eː ǀXARRA ǁKE in the Khoisan |Xam language. The year of issue appears in the upper field, with the Xhosa country name uMzantsi Afrika inscribed along the left periphery and the Afrikaans name Suid-Afrika along the right.
