Obverse description The post-apartheid South African coat of arms is depicted centrally in high relief, featuring a shield supported by a secretary bird with outstretched wings, with crossed spears and a knobkierie below. A rising sun with rays appears above the shield, and an ear of wheat and a protea flank the base. The engraver's initials ALS appear in the lower field. The bilingual legend in Zulu and Venda reads 'NINGIZIMU AFRIKA' to the left and 'AFURIKA TSHIPEMBE' to the right, with the date '2005' at the top and the motto '!KE Eː ǀXARRA ǁKE' inscribed on the scroll at the base of the arms.
