Obverse description The South African coat of arms displayed centrally in the field, featuring the new post-apartheid design adopted in 2000. The motto '!KE E: ǀXARRA ǁKE' appears on the scroll beneath the shield, rendered in the ǀXam language of the San (Bushmen) people, meaning 'Unity in Diversity.' The country name is inscribed in the legend in two of South Africa's official languages: 'iNingizimu Afrika' in Zulu and 'iSewula Afrika' in Ndebele, flanking the date 2003.
