A small six-pointed star is positioned below the shield in the lower field. The circular legend DUCATO DI LUCCA surrounds the device, reading clockwise from the lower left, with a stop mark at the conclusion. The coin border is defined by a continuous raised beaded rim.

Additional information

Carlo Ludovico di Borbone ruled Lucca as a dependency effectively managed under Austrian oversight following the Congress of Vienna, which had assigned the duchy to his mother Maria Luisa, with him succeeding in 1824. The copper coinage of this period was struck in small quantities for a microstate of roughly 25,000 inhabitants — Lucca's mint output was modest by any measure, and the quattrino denominations were the workhorse of local petty commerce. The duchy was dissolved in 1847 when it reverted to Tuscany, cutting the series short.
