Muhammed Nadir Shah seized power in October 1929 after ousting Habibullah Kalakani, the Tajik rebel leader who had himself toppled the modernizing Amanullah Khan earlier that year. Nadir Shah's new coinage — including this small bronze — was among his first acts of administrative consolidation, asserting legitimate authority through currency before his government had fully stabilized. He was assassinated in November 1933, making his entire reign just over four years.
