Additional information

Issued to mark the turn of the millennium, this was one of the final commemorative pieces struck before Cyprus abandoned the pound entirely — euro adoption came in 2008, ending over a century of the pound as the island's currency unit. The Central Bank had little reason to produce coins with long-term circulation in mind; accession negotiations with the EU were already well advanced by 2000.
