| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George IV, modelled by Jean Baptiste Merlen, with finely rendered curly hair and truncated neck, occupying the central field. The portrait is executed in high relief in a neoclassical style, with the king depicted without crown or laurel. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIUS IIII D:G: BRITANNIAR:REX F:D: with the engraver's initials J.B.M. appearing at the truncation. A raised rim borders the coin. |

| Reverse description | Benedetto Pistrucci's celebrated neoclassical composition depicts St George, helmeted and wearing a billowing cloak, mounted on a rearing horse and thrusting a broken lance downward into the writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves. The armoured dragon, shown in profile to the right, lies defeated in the lower field. The date 1823 appears in the exergue, flanked by the engraver's initials B.P. to the right. The design fills the field with dynamic energy, with no surrounding legend, the entire composition enclosed by a raised rim. |
