Obverse description The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem and draped in robes. The portrait, modelled by engraver Jody Clark, is rendered in high relief against a smooth field. The encircling legend reads ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·2 POUNDS, with the engraver's initials J.C. appearing at the truncation of the bust.

Reverse description A rampant unicorn, one of the Queen's Beasts, is depicted standing facing left and wearing a coronet around its neck from which a chain descends. The unicorn supports the Royal Badge of Scotland, featuring a lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counter-flory on a shield. The date 2017 appears to the left and the inscription UNICORN OF SCOTLAND to the right, with the engraver's initials JC below the design.
