Reverse description The reverse, designed by Tim Sharp, presents a bold and modernist commemorative composition honouring the British Army's role in the First World War. At centre, three overlapping profile busts of soldiers face right, their helmeted and capped heads rendered in low relief against a background of stylised marching troops, evoking the mass mobilisation of 1914–1918. Two broad diagonal bands cross the field, suggesting the crossed swords or service ribbons of the armed forces. The legend THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914–1918 arcs around the upper portion of the outer ring, while the date 2016 appears at the base, both separated from the inner design by a beaded border.
