| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem adorned with pearls and gemstones, pearl drop earrings, and a pearl necklace. The portrait, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, is attributed to the Pobjoy Mint's standard effigy for British Overseas Territories. The encircling legend reads 'SOUTH GEORGIA & SOUTH SANDWICH ISLANDS' to the upper left and 'ISLANDS 2018' to the lower right in raised Latin lettering, with the Pobjoy Mint 'PM' privy mark visible at the base of the bust truncation. |
