Additional information

Portland Bill lighthouse, completed in 1906, replaced two earlier towers on the promontory — the higher of which had paradoxically sent its beam straight over the heads of sailors in the fog below. Stevenson's involvement sits within a broader family engineering dynasty: his grandfather Robert, father Alan, and uncles David and Thomas collectively designed the majority of Scottish lighthouses built before 1900. Portland Bill itself is not a Stevenson lighthouse, but the series honors the broader British lighthouse heritage he symbolizes.

Jersey's £2 bimetallic program has leaned heavily on British maritime themes since the 1990s.
