Additional information

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands have no permanent civilian population, which makes their coin issues purely commemorative products sold through licensing arrangements rather than currency that ever circulates. This 2003 issue marking Prince William — then in his first year at St Andrews — is one of dozens of similar pieces produced under the territory's name by the Pobjoy Mint, which held the contract for SGSSI coinage through much of the early 2000s.
