Additional information

Peter Rabbit's centenary as a Royal Mint subject has generated a steady stream of collector issues since 2016, when Beatrix Potter's characters first appeared on circulating 50p coins — the first time a licensed fictional character had featured on British currency. The 2021 two-pound denomination sits in a later wave of that programme, by which point the Royal Mint had issued enough Potter-related silver proofs to constitute a sub-series in its own right.

Beatrix Potter herself died in 1943, leaving her Lake District farms to the National Trust — a detail that explains why the Trust, not a commercial publisher, controls much of her estate's physical legacy.
