Additional information

Issued to mark the 450th anniversary of Henry VIII's death, this miniature gold piece is part of a wider commemorative program the Falkland Islands Government ran through the 1990s — a common revenue strategy for small dependent territories with no meaningful domestic coin demand. The KM#112 attribution places it firmly within that series.

Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries between 1536 and 1541, seizing assets that represented perhaps a third of all land in England. The Crown's need to liquidate that wealth drove one of the most aggressive coin debasements in English history — the so-called "Great Debasement" — reducing silver content in some issues to under 25%.
