Additional information

Henry I granted Guernsey its foundational Norman customary laws around 1106, a legal framework so durable that elements of it technically persisted in the island's constitutional structure into the modern period. The 1989 coin commemorates the 900th anniversary of his accession to the English throne — a date the island had particular cause to mark, given that its distinct legal identity traces more directly to Norman royal grants than to any English parliamentary act.

KM#51a is the silver variant of a base-metal issue struck the same year. Relatively modest mintage figures are typical for Guernsey commemorative silver of this period.
