| Additional information |
The British Indian Ocean Territory has no permanent civilian population — the Chagossians were forcibly removed between 1968 and 1973 to make way for the U.S. naval base at Diego Garcia, a displacement still contested in international courts. BIOT coins are issued purely for collector revenue, as no circulating economy exists on the territory.
This piece marks the 70th wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the longest marriage of any British sovereign.
