| Additional information |
Egbert of Wessex, who died in 839, is often cited as the first king to exercise overlordship over all the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms — though that claim was largely a later political construction promoted by his descendants to legitimize West Saxon dominance. This 1996 issue belongs to a broader series of British colonial commemoratives produced by the Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Falkland Islands, a jurisdiction with no historical connection to ninth-century English kingship whatsoever.
KM#47 is one of several issues in the run tracking early English monarchs, timed loosely to royal anniversary marketing rather than any specific historical commemoration.
