The British Antarctic Territory, though a functioning UK Overseas Territory with a resident scientific population, has no indigenous civilian economy — its coins are produced explicitly for the philatelic and numismatic trade and do not circulate in any meaningful sense. The crabeater seal is a reasonable subject for the series; despite its name, it feeds almost exclusively on Antarctic krill, a dietary quirk that makes it the most abundant large mammal on Earth after humans.
