Alderney's 1993 commemorative program marked the fortieth anniversary of the Coronation — June 2, 1953 — and was among the early issues that established the island's modern collector coin series. Alderney had only begun issuing coins in its own name in 1989, making the KM#5a one of the relatively early entries in a catalog that has since grown considerably.
