Additional information

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has no permanent civilian population, which makes its coin issues purely philatelic in nature — struck for collectors, not circulation. The 2019 Victoria bicentenary series used that occasion to reach into archival imagery less commonly reproduced on commemorative coinage. The Great Seal of Victoria's reign was a working legal instrument, affixed to royal proclamations and patents throughout her 63-year tenure, including those formally extending British administrative authority over remote sub-Antarctic territories like South Georgia itself, annexed in 1908.
