Issued to mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower's 1620 voyage, this coin appeared in a year when the UK and US jointly commemorated the crossing — a rare instance of coordinated transatlantic numismatic programming between the Royal Mint and the United States Mint, which issued its own companion piece. The Mayflower carried 102 passengers from Plymouth, England; fewer than half survived the first winter in Massachusetts.
