Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·2 POUNDS· J.C
(Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith)
Reverse description A bold, stylised rendering of the word FRANKENSTEIN dominates the central field, executed in dramatic gothic-inspired lettering evoking the electrical spark that animated Mary Shelley's fictional creature. The design by Thomas Docherty employs strong graphic contrasts and jagged letterforms to reference the electrification theme central to the novel's creation myth. The legend BICENTENARY OF MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN arcs around the design, accompanied by the subtitle THE MODERN PROMETHEUS, the date 1818 recalling the novel's first publication, and the issue year 2018 marking the two-hundredth anniversary. The engraver's initials TD appear within the design.
