Issued on the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of Britain, this coin carries particular weight for Jersey, which was occupied by German forces from July 1940 through May 1945 — the only part of the British Isles to fall under Nazi occupation. While RAF pilots fought overhead, islanders below endured five years of requisitioning, forced labor, and deportations to internment camps on the continent.
KM#77 is part of a broader commemorative program Jersey ran through the late 1980s and early 1990s using the standard 28.28g .925 silver module common to Commonwealth issues of the period.
