Obverse description The obverse bears a finely modelled right-facing effigy of King Charles III, uncrowned and in plain dress, as sculpted by Martin Jennings. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a polished mirror field, set within a broad raised border carrying the Latin legend. The circumferential inscription reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 2 POUNDS · 2025, separated by raised bullet points, with the engraver's initials MJ appearing discretely below the truncation of the neck. The design continues the Royal Mint tradition of a contemporary, unadorned royal portrait, conveying a dignified and naturalistic likeness of the sovereign.

Reverse description The reverse, designed by John Bergdahl, presents a bold and detailed depiction of the Royal Navy light cruiser HMS Belfast underway at sea, viewed from a dramatic low bow-on perspective that emphasises the vessel's formidable triple gun turrets and imposing superstructure. Smoke billows from the funnel, and stylised waves break at the hull, conveying a sense of motion and power. In the upper right quadrant, a partial globe rendered in a cartographic grid style evokes the ship's worldwide operational history. The legend HMS BELFAST is inscribed in bold raised lettering to the right of the main design, with the engraver's initials EB appearing in the lower field, and the country designation GB positioned beneath the inscription.
