| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Charles III facing left, modelled by Martin Jennings, occupying the copper-nickel centre disc. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features, the engraver's initials MJ appearing in the lower field of the centre. The encircling nickel-brass outer ring carries the Latin legend CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 2 POUNDS · 2023, interrupted by raised dot stops and small star ornaments, with the denomination and date positioned at the lower arc. |
