| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a dramatic scene of Allied soldiers wading ashore during the Normandy landings of 6 June 1944, rendered in high sculptural relief. Four helmeted infantrymen advance through churning surf, armed with rifles and laden with full combat equipment; their expressions and postures convey urgency and determination. The bold inscription D-DAY dominates the upper centre of the field in large capital letters, with the date 6 JUNE 1944 arced beneath it flanked by dashes. The names of the five Normandy landing beaches — UTAH OMAHA GOLD JUNO SWORD — are inscribed along the upper periphery, and the numeral 80 appears at lower left commemorating the eightieth anniversary of the landings. The designer's initials DT are incused discretely at lower right. |
