Caernarfon Castle was the site of Charles's investiture as Prince of Wales in July 1969 — a ceremony watched by 500 million television viewers and staged by the Earl of Snowdon with considerable theatrical ambition, including a transparent perspex canopy that scandalized traditionalists.
